recommended websites on autism, autoimmunity, and dietary intervention
On the web, there are an abundance of resources pertaining to autism, autoimmunity, and dietary intervention. I have chosen the best sites that I have discovered; all of these sites have high quality resources. Here is a quick review/overview of my favourite autism, autoimmunity, and dietary intervention websites:
- Autism Research Institute
- The Autism Research Institute conducts and disseminates research into treating autism. There is a lot of quality information on their
website, especially relating to alternative therapies and biomedical interventions. They also maintain a list of clinicians who implement the
Defeat Autism Now! (DAN!) approach to treating autism.
- Autism Network for Dietary Intervention
- Prominent authors, Karyn Seroussi and Lisa Lewis, created the Autism Network for Dietary Intervention to assist parents with
managing the gulten- and casein-free diet. The Autism Network for Dietary Intervention also has valuable information to connect you with a
local parent support system.
- National Autism Association
- The National Autism Association is an advocacy group that seeks to educate and empower families affected by autism and other
neurological disorders. They approach autism as "biomedically definable and treatable" disorder largely triggered by environmental toxins.
Their website has some very useful and informative articles and links.
- Talk about Curing Autism Now!
- Although I am a little unsure of the wisdom in the using the phrase "curing autism"because even those who achieve complete or
near-complete recovery from the many of the developmental challenges still have to manage and regulate their diet, the Talk about
Curing Autism Now! website nevertheless has some great information and helpful resources, including financial assistance and scholarships
to help with the extraordinary costs of treating autism!
- Autism Speaks
- Probably the most well-known non-profit raising awareness about autism, Autism Speaks is "dedicated to funding global biomedical research
into the causes, prevention, treatments, and cure for autism; to raising public awareness about autism and its effects on individuals,
families, and society; and to bringing hope to all who deal with the hardships of this disorder."
- Interactive Autism Network
- Sponsored by Autism Speaks, the Interactive Autism Network facilitates and encourages research by promoting discussion. Participating
parents submit reports on treatments and progress and can be matched with local, regional, or national research projects.
- Spondylitis Association of America
- The Spondylitis Association of America is the organization in the United States devoted to spondylitis education, awareness, and
research. Although there is some limited information on dietary intervention for ankylosing spondylitis, it is not aggressively promoted.
Sadly the efficacy of diets for ankylosing spondylitis and autoimmune disorders is not widely appreciated so you'll find the better, more
helpful information on the autism websites.
- Dr. Fuhrman
- Dr. Fuhrman is a medical practitioner who stresses the importance of dietary intervention for treating disease. His website provides a
wealth of information on healthy foods and healthy eating.
- National Health Association
- The National Health Association website has a number of helpful articles on healthy eating, healthy lifestyle, healthy recovery, and
healthy philosophy. They are a non-profit organization committed to promoting plant-based diets.
- Lee Silsby Compounding Pharmacy
- Lee Silsby is an Ohio based pharmacy that specializes in compounded medications and nutritional supplements. Their products are high
quality and free of common allergens that effect autism and autoimmune patients.
- ClinicalTrials.gov
- The U.S. National Institutes for Health maintains this registry and searchable database of clinical trials seeking participants, in
progress, or recently completed. If you want to be part of emerging research into treating autism and autoimmunity, this is the place to
start.
